An accident is difficult to plan.
You lose people; close friends
become distant, and strangers
seem more familiar.
You can decide how, where and when.
You lose touch; who you are
and who you’re supposed to be
blur until you can’t see.
You’ll crash and spin over.
People lose you; unnoticed
strings chain you together
and with you, they suffer.
You’ll be found and cared for.
They will wait; until you see
them once again, they will stay
by your side and each day after.
It’s been a while since I’ve written a poem. I’m always glad to do GloPoWriMo because it gives me an excuse to write again. I’ve done big steps recently for my own mental health and it’s been going great so far. I think this one is another good step forward.
Day 1 Prompt: to write – without consulting the book – a poem that recounts the plot, or some portion of the plot, of a novel that you remember having liked but that you haven’t read in a long time.
And I chose Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang. I love this book. It’s not told chronologically but as memories mid flight. It shows a perspective that always helps me gets things on track. Makes me realize the people around me. That I’m not alone. And I hope I’ve done it justice with this poem. I hope you enjoy it too.
